The Carmelite Symposium sponsored by the Carmelite Institute of North America opened June 28th with the theme “Saint Teresa’s Gift to the 21st Century” at Saint Mary’s of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, IL. The event is attended by members belonging to both branches of the Order- Friars, Nuns, Sisters and Lay Carmelites. We are privileged to have the Prior General of the Order of Carmelites, Father Fernando Millan Romeral, O.Carm. join us for this event.
The chanted First Vespers for the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul was held at the Seminary’s chapel and was followed by light reception and socials.
The Symposium’s program for the next few days will include conferences covering the life and gift of Saint Teresa of Jesus to the Carmelite Order and the Church. The Symposium will conclude on Wednesday night with the Eucharistic liturgy by Fr. Jack Welch, O.Carm., celebrating Fr. Kieran Kavanaugh, OCD and his contribution to Saint Teresa’s work. At the special banquet following the liturgy, Fr. Kieran will be presented with Lifetime Achievement Award.
