Fr Michael Kissane, O.Carm. was born in Manhattan, NY and raised in Greenlawn, Long Island. In 1972 he entered St Alberts Jr. Seminary which was the minor seminary of the Carmelites at 14 years of age. After four years of high school he continued in the Carmelite formation program while attending Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. He graduated from Iona with a BA in history in 1980. In June of 1980 he entered the Novitiate and made his simple profession on June 15, 1981. He was ordained on December 20, 1986.
Fr Michael’s first assignment was to St Simon Stock parish in the Bronx as a parochial vicar. After one year he was made temporary administrator and then pastor of St Simon Stock. During his time at St Simon Stock Fr Michael pursued a master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling which he completed in June of 1993. He served as pastor of St Simon Stock until July of 1992 when he was appointed Co-Formation Director at Whitefriars Hall. During his time on the formation team at Whitefriars Hall he studied part-time at Loyola College in Baltimore where he received a post masters Certificate of Advanced Studies in Counseling.
In 1993 he was appointed Vocation Director of the St Elias Province and served as Vocation Director until 1997. During this time, he was also appointed the Pre-novitiate formation director from January of 1996 – August of 1999. In August of 1999 he was once again appointed Pastor of St Simon Stock parish until June of 2003 when he was elected Provincial of the St Elias Province.
Fr Michael served 6 years as provincial and then was the Novice director for one year. The following year there were no novices so Fr Michael went to the Carmelite mission in Trinidad for eight months.
In July of 2011 he was appointed Pastor of St Jude Carmelite parish in Boca Raton Florida. He served as pastor for four years until he was once again elected Provincial in June of 2015.
