The Carmelite Institute announces the annual Vilma Seelaus, ocd, Prize for Carmelite Writing. The Seelaus prize will be awarded for the best new piece of writing submitted on the subject of Carmelite Spirituality.

Carmelite Studies

How can Carmelite Spirituality speak to the contemporary world? What does this centuries-old spirituality have to offer young people today? How does a contemplative spirituality enrich an active life and contribute to Christian mission?

We are calling for submissions from historians, theologians, ministry leaders, philosophers, sociologists, and other scholars and practitioners. Submissions from young scholars are especially encouraged, as are papers with a focus on Teresa of Avila as we approach her fifth centenary.

The deadline for completed manuscripts is March 1, 2013. Submissions will be reviewed by a committee of scholars. The winner will receive $500 and a chance to present the paper at the Carmelite Seminar in South Bend Indiana, June 9-15, 2013. The paper will also be submitted for consideration for publication in Carmelus, a journal of Carmelite studies. Electronic submissions are required. Address any correspondence concerning possible topics and send all submissions to papers@carmelstream.org.
